M.Ed. in Applied Leadership in Positive Education

The Master of Applied Leadership in Positive Education is designed for professional educators who are interested in applied leadership, situated within the framework of positive education and psychology. The focus of this course is to foster the development of leadership capacity that reconstructs positively the way we see the world. Positive education is explored via the application of theory to practice using strengths-based approaches including positive psychology and positive organisational scholarship. Content and assessment will be tailored to individuals and their context including education, government, community, professions, industry and training, both nationally and internationally. The units of study are structured to incorporate action learning, appreciative inquiry and reflective practice methodologies to ensure the applied nature of the course. Critiquing self and leadership provides a springboard to reframe and recreate new leadership paradigms that promote innovation, sustainability, and wellbeing.

Successful completion of this course will advance students' knowledge in applied leadership in specialisations, including early childhood, vocational education and training, primary and secondary schooling, professional contexts and higher education.

The course, with its focus on the needs of busy professionals, is available in part time mode using a variety of online learning technologies.

This course has a quota on the number of students accepted for each teaching period. In ranking eligible applicants (all those meeting the formal entry requirements) the selection committee will take into account the applicant's academic background and employment, and their suitability/interest in the course based on their personal statement.
